Lauryn...Where Are You?

Hey G.O.G.'s!
Today's post is about a true beauty and fashion diva who has disappeared from the limelight. What happened to Lauryn Hill?

This was/is an inspirational girl who took the world by storm with her beautiful voice and lyrical talent. Bust most of all, Lauryn was real. She wasn't religious, she had a RELATIONSHIP with God, and it was obvious.
~
Why is this post relevant to FaBeauty and to G.O.G.'s, you ask? Well, some may not know that Lauryn was/is a G.O.G. herself.
~
Although there has been controversy among Believers about Lauryn's status, FaBeauty has seen with our own eyes how amazing and Christ-centered this girl once was. Since we are seeing all sorts of pictures on the Internet of her, and hearing all the "she's gone crazy" rumors in the media, I think it is important for FaBeauty to investigate.

Whether you were a fan of Lauryn Hill's music or not, she has impacted so many people with her music and testimony. On numerous award shows and in Hollywood media occasions, Lauryn wasn't a stranger to standing up and professing her love for God, and that the purpose of her life was to be a servant. She encouraged young men and especially G.O.G.'s to believe that it isn't "uncool" to love and serve God out loud. She declared on stages and in music venues that you can still maintain your individuality and personality and still serve God in your walk.

Take a look at one of her speeches here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4nEBkMwCizw at the Essence Awards accepting an award. Truly inspirational.

During her career, she was bold in speaking to rooms filled with celebrities and industry reps about living a God-centered life. She was elevated to a position of power and was able to speak to people of "the world" who wouldn't likely listen to the message in any other way.

We ought to know that there is a world of people out there who are untouched by the word of God because as Christians, we have been placed by them and by ourselves, into a box of religion. The four walls of this constructed box of Christianity has somehow made us unrelatable and irrelevant to main stream living. Lauryn has been one of the few "secular" artists who, through her music, was able to capture the attention of those outside of the Church house.

So what happened? Could fame and pressure have gotten to her spirit? The pictures of her on the Internet look horrible, but we all know that this shouldn't be our number one source, since the media can be biased and vindictive, especially when it comes to the people of God.
Surely, she must be experiencing difficulty in her life, but why do we tend to criticize in these times, instead of praying? G.O.G.'s everywhere should pray for Lauryn and her family that she will overcome the attacks of the media and declare what "thus, saith the Lord" once again. Believers and unbelievers need the beauty of her music and the light she once let shine so brightly on stage.

We love you here at FaBeauty Lauryn, and we're praying for you, our fellow G.O.G.

Are you a 1st Peter G.O.G.?

Hey G.O.G.'s!

As I was reading a magazine online today, I came across a scripture reference of 1st Peter chapter 3. When I read what it said, I was like "whoa!" I had this reaction because although I have read it previously, it never stuck out to me before the way it did today. It reads:

3Your beauty should not come from outward adornment, such as braided hair and the wearing of gold jewelry and fine clothes. 4Instead, it should be that of your inner self, the unfading beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is of great worth in God's sight. 5For this is the way the holy women of the past who put their hope in God used to make themselves beautiful.

So,I asked myself, am I a 1st Peter G.O.G.? Am I keeping up with the beautiful women in the G.O.G. genealogy? I mean, we've had great examples set for us in the past, haven't we? From the gorgeous and courageous Esther, to the faithful Ruth and humble Mary and Martha, the beauty of each of these G.O.G.'s was evident. From birth, we are created to be the apple of God's eye.

This is the way FaBeauty views fashion and beauty. Fashion is to express outward beauty, which is to be a cursor pointing to what lies inside. The scripture says that beauty in a girl is of great worth in God's sight; the kind of beauty described in this scripture, that is. This type of spiritual beauty is the only thing that matters to God.

Most of us have discovered by now that nice jewelry, impeccable make-up and fashionable clothes are impressive to man, but it all means nothing to God.
~
It is only when your outward beauty is backed-up with the spiritual beauty that your appearance begins to stand for something.

So what does your beauty and style stand for?
If your answer is nothing, then you may need a make-over. We hope that our generation of women will move past the common standard of beauty, and seek the real definition of beauty, according to our Creator. So what's the verdict? Are you a 1st Peter G.O.G.? We hope so!
~Have a Fabulous Weekend!

Celebrity G.O.G. of the week: Nicole Ari Parker!

Hey G.O.G.'s!
As you all know, FaBeauty likes to showcase celebrity Girls of God (G.O.G.'s) who aren't ashamed of their faith and who also happen to have smokin' style! This week we have a special RECENT G.O.G. who gave her life to Christ: Nicole Ari Parker!
Most known for her super-successful acting career in shows like Soul Food and movies like Brown Sugar, Mrs. Parker-Kodjoe is a household name in Black Hollywood. FaBeauty is so happy for Nicole Ari Parker and her family recently deciding to serve God; and even though she hasn't always modeled G.O.G. style, FaBeauty welcomes her with open arms :) I remember being very inspired watching her and husband Boris Kodjoe on TBN's popular show 'Praise the Lord' and hearing her story. While she has been known previously for her sexy image, Nicole has recently been sporting some G.O.G. styles that we admire. Let's take a look at why we love the new Nicole and her most recent style:

In addition to the fact that she is stinking gorgeous :), she manages to keep her fashion modern yet, eclectic and fun wearing this chocolate, leather bomber jacket, brown cow boy boots, and a funky tee while carrying a gold clutch:

Nicole loves to experiment with her look, often changing hair styles from edgy cuts, to soft waves. Regardeless of what she does to her hair, she always seems to look FABULOUS:
Nicole and husband Boris like to keep their life down-to-earth. It's very rare that you see these two in Hollywood scandals or in paparazzi pics stumbling in and out of night spots:

The Kodjoe Family
With beautiful green eyes, Nicole loves wearing vibrant colors (which we looove at FaBeauty) to compliment her famous peepers:

Nicole can serve as a reminder that we are all far from perfect, yet a much greater life can come through surrendering to Jesus Christ and his plan for your life. She is an overall FaBeautie, and we love her for choosing to stand for something greater than external beauty. Welcome to the G.O.G. family, yay!

Watch her testimony here http://www.tbn.org/index.php/2/37.html on TBN. Go to the Tuesday January 27, 2009 show. I hope all you G.O.G.'s out there will be INSPIRED by Nicole's story!

FaBeauty's Top 5 Fashion No No's!

Happy Sunday G.O.G's!
I hope you all had a relaxing and peaceful Sunday :)
Okay, let's get down to fashion and beauty business! Have you ever seen something while at church, or out and about and in your mind you screamed "No No!?" Well, as silly as I am sometimes, I definitely have. This has inspired me to address some of the fashion 'No No's' and 'Why would you's' for G.O.G.'s! Now we've all made fashion mistakes (boy, have I!), so let's take a look at some of the notorious 'No No's'.
Feel free to agree or disagree in our comments section. We, here at FaBeauty want to hear all your opinions!

Okay...Here we Go!

'No No' # 1
Lingerie tops or bottoms or anything that looks like under garments!

*Sigh* I love you all, but Please...Please leave the tank tops, blouses and shirts that are inspired by underclothes at at home where they belong! This was a trend a couple of seasons ago, and for some reason they have hung on for dear life. Anything that is made mostly out of lace with spaghetti straps, is a fashion 'No No'. Besides the fact that they are inappropriate for public wear because they look like under garments, they are totally fashion backwards. When you see these in the store, do a 360 degree turn and walk the other way! Here's a general rule of thumb for a Girl of God: if it looks like underwear don't buy it!

'No No' # 2
Blinging and Blinding in Church!

Now, we all know that church is not a place where one should necessarily show off fashion, and of course, your inner beauty is far more important than any trendy clothing you can possibly put on. Now, with that being said, we G.O.G.'s should put our best foot forward on Sunday mornings without blinding the rest of our members! Lol. While I do make this recommendation with light-heartedness, it is important for us to realize that subtle pieces with unique detail and wonderful color are the best way to make a lasting impression. Rule of Thumb number two for a G.O.G. : if it has sequins, diamond studs and all sorts of trinkets hanging from it, you may want to save it for an evening function, rather than Sunday morning service, please ladies!

'No No' # 3
Heels that you can't walk in!
Now, I can't tell you how many girls I've seen awkwardly stumbling down the aisle during offering time or outside in the parking lot in heels that are obviously not comfortable for them. There is nothing wrong with heels, and I do love a great pair myself, however, I value my physical well-being much more! So, this means I prefer to try shoes out in my house to see if I can walk in them before I wear them out. This way, I'll avoid potential embarrassing mishaps like tripping and falling, and I'll avoid looking like I'm practicing to walk on stilts! FaBeauty has seen it all too often, and ladies, there's really no need to put yourself in all that pain. Just try them out before you wear them out, and for you diva's out there, try maybe a 3 1/2 inch heel than a 4 or 5inch one. Remember, there's nothing more fashion forward than being comfortable in your own clothing and shoes.

'No No' # 4
Skin Tight Pants!
Unless you are wearing leggings with a cute dress or mid-thigh blouse, bottoms such as jeans and dress pants this tight are a definite fashion 'No No'. As G.O.G.'s, we know our standards are a lot higher than what we may see out there. There's nothing wrong with a nice fitting pant, but remember, if you have trouble siting down you may want to try getting a larger size! Rule of thumb number three for a Girl of God: we shouldn't be confusing your dress pants with leggings! If they are that tight, take it back and get a bigger size.
'No No' # 5 ??

Now, it's your turn! You tell us what you consider to be a fashion 'No No' for christian girls. It can be anything, just remember things that are okay for let's say Amber Rose ( current girlfriend of rapper Kanye West) may not be cool for a G.O.G. with a greater message and faith. Think about it, and let us know what you think!

Stay Faithful and Fabulous!

G.O.G. Forum: Should We or Shouldn't We?

Hey Beautiful Girls of God,
Today's G.O.G. Forum will be a Should We or Shouldn't We? We do weekly forums to address relevant issues and controversies affecting our demographic, so that as a result we may become more informed and stronger in our own walk with God.

This weeks topic on our minds here at FaBeauty is: Do You think Christian girls, or Believers should wear Bikinis on the beach?
If so, why is it okay? If not, Why is it not okay?
We would like to you to voice your opinion through our comments section!

While some Christians believe that these swimsuits are just that, swimsuits, others believe that these swimsuit choices leave little to the imagination. Some may even ask the question: What is the difference between a bikini top and bottom and underwear and a bra?

Well, we will leave it up to you FaBeauties to share you thoughts on this issue. So... what are you waiting for... Get to commenting!!

We love you dearly Fabulous Ones,
xoxo

Spring Dresses: Bring it On? Or Bring it Back!

Bonjour FaBeauties!
We, here at Fabeauty, are girls of purpose and passion. We would like to take some looks and determine whether this celebrity BROUGHT IT, or wether they should BRING IT BACK!

We like to keep things REAL and let you precious girls of God know what's good in the hood! We know that there are things we women and girls can wear that do not represent us well such as our intelligence, our integrity and faith. So many of us make the mistake of confusing trendy and hot, with cheap and not so hot. While we all have cool and different personal styles, we all have one faith! At FaBeauty we believe in empowered chica's, diva's and girls who do not feel like they should compromise the standards that were set by our Heavenly Father for the Princesses of God. If you are royalty, dress like you know you are! Enough with the too tight, too short, too wack things we see out there on other fashion blogs, let's SET THE STANDARD for Fabulosity, instead of following the trend.

And Awaay we Go.....

BRING IT BACK!...Please Ms. Vivica

Why is this not a look for a G.O.G.? Well, this look screams, I want to be super sexy because I am not in my 20's anymore and it's very obvious here, because this dress is too tight and too low-cut. We G.O.G.'s know that we can wear age appropriate things and still look hot to set an example for those who are younger. Please Ms. Vivica, bring this back to Herve Leger!

BRING IT ON! Then Ms. Vivica...

Now, this is FABULOUS. Remember, classy is always hot! We like the fresh, easiness of these looks. She looks beautiful in this navy blue party dress, and fabulously cazh in this breezy white ensemble on the cover of Upscale Magazine. Tres sophistique...

Um...BRING IT BACK GABBY, GIRL

Now, this may be an on-the-line one b/c while her hair and make-up look stunning I am distracted by this criss-cross, plunging neckline here. And then we've got the high slit to the top of the thigh. I get that she's going for, again, the "sexy," yet sophisticated look, but there needs to be a little more fabric here to achieve that look. We need to stop thinking the less fabric, the more hotness. Not so, and as G.O.G.'s we know that's the truth. Sorry Girl, but please bring this back!

BRING IT GABBY!

Now this is a G.O.G. look. She's got the one strap shoulder look (very popular this spring) and she's in a beauiful summer pineapple color flowy dress. Both of these looks delcare, "I am confident, smart and beautiful!" And this Choclate Brown dress with the cute little bow is too fly for words! Diva, indeed...

Now, let's look at some strictly BRING IT's. These girls Def brough the Hotness...

Jordin Sparks Brought IT in this red/tangerine dress and platform shoes. A hot look for the hot weather.

Actress Nicole Ari Parker looks stunning in this yellow floor length gown

Tina Campbell from Christian Gospel Group Mary Mary looks gorgeous in this champagne colored gown at the Grammy's

Well, there you have it G.O.G.'s! Let's try to stay more on the BRING IT! side than on the BRING IT BACK side! We know that as G.O.G.'s we are the standard-setters. Deuteronomy 28:13 says:
"The LORD will make you the head and not the tail, and you only will be above, and you will not be underneath, if you listen to the commandments of the LORD your God, which I charge you today, to observe them carefully."
Have a beautiful day!
